#Dermot Shea says he met with Michael K. Williams to ‘collaborate’

Police Commissioner Dermot Shea said Tuesday that he met earlier this year with actor Michael K. Williams — who died this week of a suspected heroin overdose — and discussed efforts to “collaborate” with the NYPD.

The death of the 54-year-old actor — who portrayed notorious stickup man Omar Little on “The Wire” — is not currently considered suspicious, but the city medical examiner’s office will ultimately determine how he died, the top cop confirmed on Fox’s “Good Day New York.”

He described Williams’ death as “very sad.”

“And I say that from someone that spoke to and met Michael earlier this year,” the commissioner said. “Just such a tragic case…where, you know somebody in his prime of his life, really tremendous…great person.”

“And you know, we have met in trying to collaborate on doing things with the police department with him earlier this year,” Shea said, without elaborating on those efforts. “He was in this very office that I’m sitting at and we had conversations….It’s just a tragedy.”

Williams was discovered face-down and unresponsive Monday in the dining room of his luxury Williamsburg pad with what appeared to be heroin on the kitchen table, sources said.

A relative of the Emmy-winning actor talked to him Friday, and Williams was supposed to show up to an event Saturday but never made it, sources said.

The relative went to Williams’ home Monday, and someone called cops to the address at 440 Kent Ave. just before 2 p.m., reporting a man there who was “unresponsive’’ and “feels cold,’’ sources said.

Williams — who had talked openly about his past struggles with drugs — was pronounced dead by authorities at 2:12 p.m., sources said, adding that it appeared the TV star had fatally OD’d. It was unclear how long the actor may have been dead.

A police source also reported no foul play, adding that there was “no forced entry” and “the apartment was in order.”
