#Dems demean Sen. Tim Scott with knee-jerk dismissal: Devine

Cometh the hour, cometh the man. Cometh the political reckoning in November.

Sen. Tim Scott, the only black Republican in the Senate, made an eloquent bipartisan case for police reform last week, drawing on his own humiliations being racially profiled by cops.

He choked up as he told the Senate it was the fifth anniversary of the racist massacre of nine people in the “Mother Emanuel” church in his hometown of Charleston, SC.

It was a speech that should have melted the coldest heart.

But do House Democratic leaders even have hearts to melt?

They blocked his bill without a thought.

He offered open-ended amendments to the bill, which included police training, a chokehold ban, body cameras, a database of use of force, and ways to reject bad officers. He consulted police and the families of victims.

Everything was on the negotiating table.

But the Democrats don’t want to take the heat out of the issue that is burning up America’s streets.

They don’t want to give the Republicans a win, because everything is about beating Donald Trump, and they fear they are losing their monopoly on the black vote.

They didn’t want to give this formidable black Republican oxygen. They wanted to bury him.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi told reporters the bill was Republicans “trying to get away with murder — actually, the murder of George Floyd.”

Scott, who is used to being labeled an Uncle Tom because he’s a Republican, still was taken aback by the venom. He grew up “mired in poverty in a single-parent household.”

Yet here was Pelosi patronizing him about an issue he knows everything about, and she nothing.

“How in the world does this woman, standing in front of a $24,000 refrigerator, have the sense to jump into the bottomless pit of race politics?” he said on Fox News.

“Why in the world would she stoop so low?”

Pelosi’s henchman in the Senate, Minority Whip Dick Durbin of Illinois, stooped low, too, using the loaded word “token” to describe Scott’s efforts.

Durbin coughed after he said the word, his throat knowing better than his conscience how despicable it was.

Scott’s response was a speech of such gravity and real-world experience that it shamed his opponents.

“People wonder why our country is so divided, because it’s so easy to walk on this floor and say ‘token’ and send the same race-baiting message we’ve heard for a very long time. But if you’re a Democrat, hey, it’s OK.”

“[However] it’s not OK to say to our kids, ‘You can’t think what you want to think and be who you want to be,’ [that] ‘if you’re not in line with . . . the way they think . . . you’re a sellout’ . . . It’s wrong. It’s toxic. It’s pushing our country toward an implosion.”

The Democrats are determined to fan the flames of what former Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke told CNN’s Don Lemon last week is the “hateful ideology called Black Lives Matter, which has fueled this rage against the American police officer . . . I’m looking at three dead cops this week.” Lemon cut him off.

No one wants to acknowledge the fact that demonizing police costs black lives.

At least a dozen people have died directly as a result of Floyd protests, and still more are dying because police have withdrawn from conflict.

New York City’s spiking crime rate is the consequence of “trying to demonize and stereotype all law enforcement,” Scott told CNN’s Jake Tapper Sunday.

“A 79 percent increase in murders over last year right now, 64 percent increase in shootings right now, a 34 percent increase in robberies … When we continue to play politics, it only leads to more challenges in the streets of America. That’s a place we should not go. That’s where we are right now.”

No one wants that, least of all black communities vulnerable to crime. But the BLM protests, which have created the anarchy, are notable for the scarcity of black people involved — just one in six are black, according to the Pew Research Center.

There are too many videos of deranged white leftists abusing black police officers to accept that this is a movement to improve the lot of black Americans.

In Washington, DC, over the weekend, two black men protecting the Emancipation Memorial, which was funded by freed slaves, were abused by white people.

“Why are you protecting it?” shrieked one BLM activist.

“You don’t even know the history [or] who paid for it,” replied one of the black men.

“Why are you fighting me?” she screeched back.

It’s as if white virtue signalers can’t comprehend that black people would have independent ideas. How dare you not slot into the cartoon narrative I have created for you, they seem to say.

That’s how Scott sees it, anyway.

“When Speaker Pelosi says one of the most heinous things I can imagine: that Republicans are actually trying to cover up murder, the murder of George Floyd, with our legislation, that’s not politics.”

“She knows that she can say that because the Democrats have a monopoly on the black vote, [and] in monopolies, you start devaluing your customer.”

It wasn’t a slip of the tongue when Joe Biden told a black radio host, “If you have a problem figuring out whether you’re for me or Trump, then you ain’t black.”

It’s the Democrats’ election strategy.

NASCAR pulled a fast one

At first glance, the image NASCAR finally released of the infamous noose found in Bubba Wallace’s garage stall in Alabama looked ominous.

But look closer and you realize it has been deceptively photographed to look bigger than it is — big enough for a man’s neck. That’s what NASCAR wants you to think. Yet other, more distant images of the rope show the noose is the size of a hand.

NASCAR admitted, after the FBI investigated, that the noose was just a loop at the end of a rope door-pull, and not a threat.

It had been there for months, well before Wallace, NASCAR’s only full-time black driver, was assigned that stall.

Yet, instead of admitting that it overreacted and apologizing for alarming Wallace and misleading the nation, NASCAR is doubling down.

Now it has mandated “unconscious bias” training for employees so that they, too, can learn to discern the worst possible motives in the most ordinary objects.

Writing on the wall for Blasio

Workers who service the residents of NYCHA’s Morrisania development in The Bronx marvel at the largesse of Mayor de Blasio, even as he cries poor.

The latest gifts are free air-conditioners, currently being installed. A couple of weeks ago, it was free iPads, on top of free Netflix, free electricity, free masks, free hand sanitizer and free meals for all residents.

But popping up all over is some unusual graffiti: “VIVA Trump 2020.” That’s the gratitude Hizzoner gets.
