#Dems’ bid to rewrite #DefundthePolice history — with help from the media

Guess who suddenly wants to give more money to the police: That’s right — Democrats and the left, with President Joe Biden urging that COVID funds be used to hire cops. Oh, and they want everyone to simply forget that they were the ones pushing to defund the police in the first place.

Meanwhile, their left-leaning stooges in the media are only too glad to carry their water.

“Analysis: Democrats are showing urgency on public safety, led by President Biden’s new crime-fighting agenda,” read a New York Times headline Thursday, a day after Biden unveiled his plan to combat spikes in gun violence.

Give the Gray Lady points for brazenness: Such cheerleading could’ve been drafted by the White House itself (was it?).

Let’s be honest: Democrats who demonized cops and called for defunding them betrayed complete contempt for public safety. No, Biden himself didn’t scream for defunding, but he refused to condemn those who did. Instead his campaign insisted Joe “hears and shares the deep grief and frustration of those calling out for change.”

Dems are now “rallying with sudden confidence around a politically potent cause: funding the police,” declares the Times. Translation: They now realize voters may hold them responsible for the damage caused by their irresponsible actions.

As usual, the Times frames this as “GOP attacks,” as if the problem only exists in the minds of conservatives. The paper laughably accuses Republicans of “trying to scuff up Mr. Biden’s largely favorable image” by highlighting crime. Sorry, but the president has done that all by himself.

Only 36 percent of those polled approved of Biden’s handling of crime, with 44 percent disapproving, in a recent Yahoo News/YouGov survey. And even the White House acknowledges “homicides rose 30 percent and gun assaults rose 8 percent in large cities in 2020.”

Democrats will now be “trumpeting federal funding for police departments in the American Rescue Plan and attacking Republicans for having voted against it,” the paper predicts. Yet Biden’s $1.9 trillion COVID “relief” package included no such thing. That’s why he’s now encouraging localities to use their billions to fund the police; will anyone really believe that Republicans opposed more money for cops?

With opinion masquerading as “analysis,” the Times is doing its Orwellian best to prop up Biden.
