#Demon Slayer: Mugen Train Travels Onto Blu-Ray in Japan on June 16

For those continuing on the Demon Slayer -Kimetsu no Yaiba- The Movie: Mugen Train until its next stop, it’ll reach that destination when it hits DVD and Blu-ray in Japan on June 16, the Twitter account for the anime franchise revealed tonight. The anime film continued its travels through worldwide theaters over the last week, rising to US$409.79 million (44.73 billion yen) at the worldwide box office.

The official Twitter account for Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba revealed tonight that the anime film will be hitting DVD and Blu-ray in Japan on June 16, with pre-orders starting tonight at midnight. Both formats come in a limited edition and a regular edition, with all Japanese editions coming with English subtitles. Character designer Akira Matsushima draws the box for the special edition, with the insert drawn collectively by ufotable.

The special edition comes with a bonus CD drama accompaniment music collection, a DVD featuring the original stage greeting from the premiere, a Fuji TV special, and 10 episodes of Mezamashi TV, as well as a special booklet that features new interviews as well as information from the booklet given out at theaters.

Looking at the box office figures for Mugen Train, in Japan, the anime film has, as of March 14, brought in 38.61 billion yen (US$361.33 million) at the box office on the back of over 28 million tickets sold. In South Korea, it has finally surpassed a milestone and brought in US$10,217,432.00 on the back of 1,197,951 tickets sold, with takings of AU$3,340,000 (US$2.58 million) in Australia, NZ$564,000 (US$405k) in New Zealand, and US$$778,494.00 in Malaysia for a combined worldwide box office of US$409.79 million (44.73 billion yen) as of March 14.

It was also revealed that Mugen Train will be re-released in a new format in Japan, with a Dolby Cinema version of the film opening on March 27. New theatrical benefits will also be given out, including LINE style stickers of the characters starting on March 27, and two ufotable drawn A6 illustration cards from April 3. Both are limited to 1 million viewers of the film across Japan.

Demon Slayer -Kimetsu no Yaiba- The Movie: Mugen Train opened in Japanese cinemas on October 16 and had the best opening weekend in Japanese cinema history, becoming the highest-grossing film in Japanese theaters ever, and currently the second highest-grossing anime film and Japanese film worldwide. You can read our review of the film here. In the United States, a limited one-week Oscar-qualifying showing of Demon Slayer: Mugen Train is was held at one cinema in Miami from February 26.

The Ufotable-produced anime film continues to adapt the manga series by Koyoharu Gotouge, which saw a TV anime series adaptation in 2019. The Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba TV anime series streamed on Crunchyroll as it aired. The second season of the TV anime series, subtitled “Entertainment District arc”, will premiere sometime in 2021 on Japanese TV.
