Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba THE MOVIE Mugen Train

The official Twitter account for the Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba reported today that Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba THE MOVIE Mugen Train, which only opened in Japan 17 days ago, has brought in over 15.7 billion yen at the Japanese box office, exceeding the entire lifetime run of Makoto Shinkai's Weathering with You, the biggest film in Japan in 2019.

The total amount Demon Slayer: Mugen Train has made in the Japanese box office since the anime opened on October 16 is 15,799,365,450 yen (US$150.8 million), which surpasses the total takings of Makoto Shinkai's Weathering with You, which made 14.19 billion yen (US$135.5 million), and even the lifetime gross of Jame Cameron's Avatar, and its re-release, which grossed 15.60 billion yen (US$148.9 million) in Japan. This makes Demon Slayer: Mugen Train the 10th highest-grossing film in Japan ever.

We previously reported on Saturday that Demon Slayer: Mugen Train had sold 10 million tickets. Today, that total is 11,891,254, which has cleanly surpassed Avatar's 10.10 million tickets sold and even surpasses Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, which sold 11 million tickets. With this many tickets sold, Demon Slayer: Mugen Train is the 15th most attended film of all time in Japan, just behind Toho's 1962 film King Kong vs. Godzilla at 12.55 million tickets sold.
