#Decisive Battle at the Garbage Dump Passes 7.9 Billion Yen At Japan Box Office

Haikyu!!: Decisive Battle at the Garbage Dump is still going strong at the Japanese box office, with the anime movie sequel recently passing the 7.9 billion yen (~US$52.2 million) mark.

Its current total gross makes it tied with The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers as the 85th highest-grossing movie in Japan. The movie had its premiere on February 16.

At the March 22 to 24 weekend box office, Haikyu!!: Decisive Battle at the Garbage Dump reclaimed the second spot of the weekend ranking from Doraemon: Nobita no Chikyuu Symphony with 354 thousand cinema attendees. March 22 saw the start of the movie’s third wave of freebies for attendees — in the form of a Karasuno x Nekoma Memorial Book — as well as the release of another box office performance celebration trailer.

As for other anime movies that are currently screening in Japan, Doraemon: Nobita no Chikyuu Symphony has made over 2.4 billion yen (~US$15.86 million) since its March 1 premiere and took the third spot of the weekend ranking with 267 thousand moviegoers. Mobile Suit Gundam Seed Freedom, which premiered on January 26 and soon became the most successful Gundam movie, has made over 4.1 billion yen (~US$27.1 million). The movies were placed 3rd and 10th at the weekend box office ranking.

The first part of the Dead Dead Demon’s Dededede Destruction movie took the 7th spot on the weekend ranking. It begin screening on March 22.
