Debby Friday is the winner of the 2023 Polaris Music Prize. The Nigerian-born, Toronto-based electronic artist’s latest project Good Luck, which featured the Song You Need-playlisted “So Hard To Tell,” was selected by a panel of Canadian journalists and industry professionals as the country’s best album of the year. Good Luck was released in March via Sub Pop.
Good Luck was nominated alongside albums from Alvvays (Blue Rev), Feist (Multitudes), and Daniel Caesar (Never Enough). 2022’s Polaris Prize winner was Pierre Kwenders for José Louis and the Paradox of Love. Winners in previous years have included Backxwash, Jeremy Dutcher, Haviah Mighty, Lido Pimienta, Kaytranada, and Tanya Tagaq.
