#De Blasio’s latest week of proving he’s the worst mayor ever

It was yet another week in which Bill de Blasio proved himself New York’s worst mayor ever — on multiple fronts.

Most obvious was his berating one of the city’s top cops, Chief of Patrol Fausto Pichardo, into quitting — amid soaring crime and sinking NYPD morale.

Pichardo by all accounts has been working his butt off, but he missed a phone call from the mayor — who wanted to engage in some of his patented micromanagement.

When the chief did get back to him, de Blasio complained about cops’ handling of a raucous Hasidic rally where a journalist and another man were assaulted. And never mind that the mayor has been demanding unprecedented NYPD restraint on all fronts.

Then there’s the lunatic Blas-ordered purchase of the Reliant school-bus company to bail out its owner, a Blas donor — decades after the city got out of the bus business. The mayor has long favored Reliant and its drivers with unique taxpayer subsidies; now he’s having a near-bankrupt city throw away millions to buy it lock, stock and barrel.

Rotten barrel: It has tens of millions of dollars in liabilities, an aging fleet of leased vehicles and questionable “intellectual property.” Its assets will go to a new nonprofit, New York City School Bus Umbrella Services, Inc., responsible for transporting thousands of special-needs students.

With those workers getting improved perks and pay, this will drive up contracting costs for the still-private companies that bus the other 90 percent of city students. Public Advocate Jumaane Williams, Comptroller Scott Stringer and, if need be, the feds should be all over this odiferous move — and stop it dead.

Meanwhile, as The Post’s Susan Edelman reports, public-school parents are furious at being left in the dark about this year’s grading system and the scheduling of key tests for entry to the top high schools and Gifted and Talented programs, and even the annual state exams. Heck, the Department of Education won’t even release the results of its parent survey.

Yet de Blasio stands by schools Chancellor Richard Carranza, who has bungled literally every challenge since COVID-19 hit.

All this, as the mayor fails to make the spending cuts needed to stave off the fiscal collapse the city’s soaring toward. No wonder no one running to replace him is interested in “winning” de Blasio’s endorsement.
