Before the coronavirus pandemic struck New York City, you couldn’t keep Mayor Bill de Blasio away from morning workouts at his Brooklyn gym.

He decided to hit the mat at the Prospect Park YMCA in 2015 instead of visiting the scene of a standoff between a crazed Staten Island gunman and an FDNY lieutenant who was shot and seriously injured.

Then he spent an hour working up a sweat at the Brooklyn fitness facility in mid-March just hours before Gov. Andrew Cuomo ordered all gyms closed to help stop the spread of the coronavirus pandemic.

Now he’s not so keen on heading back into the Park Slope Y.

“It’s not about comfort. I’m not planning to go back right now. Someday, someday, but not right now,” de Blasio said Thursday when asked about returning to the gym by a reporter during his daily City Hall press briefing.

While gyms across the Big Apple were allowed to reopen Wednesday with safety restrictions set by the state, the Prospect Park YMCA will not welcome members back until next week.

But the pandemic didn’t stop de Blasio from getting exercise in his home borough. His NYPD security detail drove him 12 miles from his Gracie Mansion residence in Manhattan to Prospect Park in Brooklyn for regular strolls with the first lady.

De Blasio initially resisted reopening the city’s gyms until Cuomo said fitness facilities must be allowed to restart indoor activities this week.
