Pussy Riot co-founder Nadezhda Tolokonnikova — better known as Nadya Tolokno — announced on Twitter Thursday that she has launched a decentralized autonomous organization that will sell non-fungible tokens (NFTs) to support victims of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. “[O]ur goal is to raise funds to donate to Ukrainian civilian organizations who help those suffering from the war that Putin started in Ukraine,” she wrote.
To that end, Ukraine DAO — founded in collaboration with Trippy Labs and PleasrDAO — will mint 10,000 Ukrainian flag NFTs on the cryptocurrency Ethereum and distribute the proceeds from their sales to the Return Alive Foundation and Mission Proliska.
On their decision to mint images of the flag rather than original art or music, Nadya told Decrypt, “it’s not about any specific artists or aesthetics — it’s about something much bigger than all of us, it’s a pure gesture of solidarity.”
