#DC cop remembers being dragged out during riot

A Metropolitan police officer recalled the horrifying moment a mob dragged him out of the US Capitol and a crowd of rioters threatened to kill him with his own gun while pummeling him.

Officer Michael Fanone was on desk duty last Wednesday when he decided to join his fellow officers at the Capitol to control the rowdy mob, but what happened next, he says, was unimaginable.

Fanone, 40, was in a narrow hallway when the rioters dragged him out of the building and slammed him on the ground. They then stripped him of his gear, took his ammunition and his badge, he recalled in an interview with CNN.

The 20-year veteran of the force, who was also tased and beaten, remembered fearing for his life when he heard some of the rioters wanted to kill him with his own weapon.

“Some guys started getting a hold of my gun and they were screaming out, ‘Kill him with his own gun,’” Fanone told the network.

Fanone, a father of four, said he had no control of the mob and felt he wanted to use deadly force, but he thought he’d be killed if he did.

“The other option I thought of was to try to appeal to somebody’s humanity,” he told CNN. “I just remember yelling out that I have kids. And it seemed to work.”

Fanone recalled a group of rioters stepped in to protect him until he was rescued. He was thankful, but also frustrated, he said.

“Thank you, but f— you for being there,” he said of the protestors who protected him.

Fellow Metropolitan Police Officer Daniel Hodges was also assaulted during the violent unrest. He was seen on video being crushed in a doorway by pro-Trump rioters inside the Capitol.

Hodges can be seen bleeding from the mouth as he cries out in pain and screams, “Help!” DC police said he was recovering well.

FBI Director Christopher Wray said Thursday more than 200 suspects have been identified as investigators continue to probe the attack that killed five people, including a Capitol police officer.
