#DAN DA DAN Reveals New Key Visual, Trailer & 3 More Cast Members

A new key visual and second PV trailer have been revealed for the upcoming DAN DA DAN TV anime adaptation, which will begin airing in Japan in October 2024. 

The trailer also revealed three new cast members joining the series, which include Nana Mizuki as Seiko, Ayane Sakura as Aira Shiratori, and Kaito Ishikawa as Jin Enjoji/Jiji. 

They join previously announced cast members that consist of: 

• • Shion Wakayama as Momo Ayase
• • Natsuki Hanae as Ken Takakura/Okarun
• • Mayumi Tanaka as Turbo Granny
• • Kazuya Nakai as Serpoians 

It was also announced today that MBS has entered into a partnership with ADN, GKIDS, and MUSE for a global theatrical premiere of the anime outside of Japan. The theatrical premiere is titled DAN DA DAN: First Encounter and will first screen in Southeast Asia beginning on August 31, 2024, followed by Europe on September 7, 2024, and in North America on September 13, 2024. 

The international rollout of the anime will expand to over 50 countries and regions, including Latin America, Australia, New Zealand, and Africa through mid-September. Scheduled cities for the premiere include New York, Los Angeles, Paris, Taipei, Hong Kong, Manila, Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, and Bangkok.

Meanwhile, hip-hop duo Creepy Nuts will be performing the anime’s main opening theme “Otonoke.”

Fuuga Yamashiro (Keep Your Hands off Eizouken! co-assistant director) is directing the anime adaptation, with Hiroshi Seko (Chainsaw Man) as series screenwriter, Naoyuki Onda (MF Ghost, Inuyashiki) as character designer, Yoshimichi Kameda (Mob Psycho character designer) as alien and yokai designer, and Kensuke Ushio (Tengoku-Daimakyo, The Heike Story) as music composer. Science SARU is the animation production company. 

The anime is based on Yukinobu Tatsu’s sci-fi occult manga series, which was first launched on Shueisha’s Shonen Jump+ platform on April 6, 2021. Fourteen tankobon volumes have been released as of April 2024, with a 15th volume set for release in July 2024. VIZ Media releases the manga in English in print and digital format in North America. Crunchyroll has also published the print version of the manga in France and Germany since 2022 and 2023.

Crunchyroll will stream DAN DA DAN along with Netflix this coming Summer 2024, and describes the main synopsis as: 

This is a story about Momo, a high school girl who comes from a family of spirit mediums, and her classmate Okarun, an occult fanatic. After Momo rescues Okarun from being bullied, they begin talking. However, an argument ensues between them since Momo believes in ghosts but denies aliens exist, and Okarun believes in aliens but denies ghosts exist.

To prove to each other what they believe in is real, Momo goes to an abandoned hospital where a UFO has been spotted and Okarun goes to a tunnel rumored to be haunted. To their surprise, they each encounter overwhelming paranormal activities that transcend comprehension. Amid these predicaments, Momo awakens her hidden power and Okarun gains the power of a curse to overcome these new dangers! Their fateful love begins as well!?
