#Dad gets massive tattoo to match his son’s birthmark

A Canadian dad spent 30 painful hours getting a replica of his 8-year-old son’s giant birthmark tattooed on his stomach — all to reassure the kid about his appearance.

Derek Prue Sr. of Stony Plain, Alberta, decided to get the tattoo after noticing his son, Derek, wanted to go into the swimming pool with a shirt on so he could cover his birthmark.

“I knew he was self-conscious about it,” Prue told CBC News.

“I saw how he was reacting, and it made me want to do it so that he wouldn’t be the only one.”

Prue got the ink work done at Juicy Quill Tattoo in Alberta, where it took owner and artist Tony Gibbert 30 hours and almost eight weeks to complete.

“I think it’s amazing to be able to comfort your son like that,” Gibbert said of Prue.

“It’s more than just your kid seeing your name, or something — you get to actually change the way he feels about himself.”

As for Derek, he said he was a bit suspicious when he mother began taking photos of his birthmark. Still, he never imagined what his father was up to — until he saw the look-alike tattoo.

“I was happy and I was a little confused,” Derek told the outlet. “I didn’t know he was going to do that.”

Derek added he now feels comfortable taking his shirt off in the swimming pool, knowing his father is there to support him.

“Now we have the same marks for life,” Prue told his son.
