#Cy Vance is targeting Trump but praised him in a 2016 letter

Cyrus Vance Jr. might be Donald Trump’s worst enemy now, but back in November 2016, the Manhattan district attorney was full of gushing praise for the newly elected president and even offered his services on criminal-justice matters.

In a letter delivered to Trump Tower one day after the 2016 election, Vance congratulates Trump for his “extra­ordinary victory” and for “so expertly taking the pulse of the nation.”

He adds that Trump “can always call upon me” when it comes to “law-enforcement and criminal-justice issues.”

It’s a far cry from Vance’s attitude toward Trump now that he is out of office. The DA is presiding over an aggressive criminal investigation into the former president’s business affairs and reportedly has convened a grand jury to sit for six months.

The letter, dated Nov. 9, 2016, was obtained by The Post from sources familiar with documents shared with the DA’s office.

“Dear Donald/President-Elect,” Vance wrote on his district attorney letterhead.

“Congratulations on your extraordinary victory. After so expertly taking the pulse of the nation, you now stand in position to move us forward.

“Realizing how important law-enforcement and criminal-justice issues are to you, please know that you or your staff can always call upon me.”

Vance ends by offering “my best to you and Melania, and to your beautiful family.”

Vance has announced he is not seeking re-election this year.

His successor will inherit the two-year investigation in conjunction with state Attorney General Letitia James’ criminal probe into Trump’s tax, property valuations and executive compensation, which has embroiled senior executives of the Trump Organization and their families.

A spokesman for Vance said that while he supported Hillary Clinton for president in 2016, he had a “strong tradition of open intergovernmental relationships with all White Houses and federal justice policymakers irrespective of political party.”

A spokesman for Trump  declined to comment but, in a press release, the former president blasted the parallel investigations as a “continuation of the greatest Witch Hunt in American History.”

“It began the day I came down the escalator in Trump Tower, and it’s never stopped. They failed to stop me in Washington, so they turned it over to New York to do their dirty work … I have built a great company, employed thousands of people, and all I do is get unfairly attacked and abused by a corrupt political system …

“But the District Attorney and Attorney General are possessed … with destroying [my] political fortunes … because they don’t want ‘Trump’ to run again.”
