#Cubs vs. Brewers prediction: Taking the Under is the way to go

July 24, 2020 | 3:01pm

The Milwaukee Brewers and Chicago Cubs have forged quite a rivalry the past few seasons that will be renewed Friday night at Wrigley Field. These two teams have had a lot of pitchers’ duels in Chicago in recent years with the Under hitting at a 72 percent rate (18-7-1) in the past 26 meetings there and 72 percent of the past 51 meetings overall.

Cubs starter Kyle Hendricks was exceptional at Wrigley Field in 2019, going 6-2 with a 2.04 ERA with fewer than 0.6 home runs allowed per nine innings. He will be facing off against Brandon Woodruff, who spent much of the 2019 season on the injured list but still mustered an 11-3 record and 3.62 ERA in 22 starts. Looking even further, in five appearances against the Cubs, he has a 2.38 ERA. Plus, he has a career ERA lower on the road than at Miller Park.

With the Brewers adjusting to life without Eric Thames and Mike Moustakas coupled with a bullpen that has several multi-inning options, it should lead to another low-scoring game. Couple that with the wind at Wrigley likely to be relatively calm and likely blowing in, all things align for a Friday Night Under in Chicago.

The play: Brewers-Cubs, Under 8¹/₂ runs (-110).
