Cubs pitcher Jose Quintana underwent surgery on his left thumb and required five stitches, following a mishap while washing dishes in his Miami home.
Quintana, 31, suffered a lacerated digital sensory nerve from the bizarre accident last Saturday, requiring the microscopic procedure on his pitching hand Thursday morning. The Cubs announced that the southpaw is expected to resume his throwing program in two weeks, though it is unclear how long he will be out. The season is scheduled to begin on July 23.
Last season, Quintana went 13-9 with a 4.68 ERA and 1.39 WHIP, both the worst marks of his eight-year career.
