#Crunchyroll To Be Aquired By Sony’s Funimation Global Group for $1.175 Billion

Sony Pictures Television and AT&T confirmed in a press release that AT&T has sold Crunchyroll to Funimation Global Group. Funimation is a joint-venture between Sony Pictures Television and Aniplex, a subsidary of Sony Music Entertainment (Japan).

The Funimation Global Group currently encompasses Funimation, Wakanim (servicing Europe), and AnimeLab (servicing Australia). The transaction is valued at $1.175 billion. However, the sale is subject to regulatory review. 

Specific details on what will happen on both Crunchyroll and Funimation’s side has yet to be revealed. Crunchyroll currently boasts 3 million subscribers while Funimation surpassed 1 million subscribers. 

In August 2018, Crunchyroll under Otter Media was aquired by AT&T.
