#Crunchyroll Surpasses 4 Million Paying Members, Partners with Idris & Sabrina Elba to Produce “Dantai” Animated Series

Crunchyroll announced in a press release on Tuesday that the site had reached a landmark of four million paying subscribers among its 100 million registered users in January.  This announcement comes six months after the site reached 3 million paying subscribers.  

The press release also announced that the platform would be developing a dark fantasy animated series with Idris Elba’s Green Door Pictures and Sabrina Elba’s Pink Towel Pictures.  Idris and Sabrina will be executive producers for the project, which currently has the working title “Dantai”.

Crunchyroll describes the series as:

Currently in development, the Afro-futuristic science fiction series will be set in a city where the rise of biotechnology has created an ever-widening gap between the haves and have-nots. Two rising stars from either side of this divide are pitted against each other in a story that will ultimately explore equality and kinship within a corrupt society.
