#Colorado woman killed in bear attack

A 39-year-old Colorado woman was killed in a bear attack Friday.

The unidentified Durango resident was walking with her dogs when she was attacked by the animal, parks officials said.

Her body was found by her boyfriend off of a highway near Trimble Friday night, according to authorities. He made the grim discovery after coming home to find the dogs outside their home and the woman missing, according to the release.

“Officers responded and observed signs of consumption on the body and an abundance of bear scat and hair at the scene,” the release stated.

A dog search team found a female bear with two yearlings nearby, officials said.

The animals were euthanized, according to Colorado Parks and Wildlife.

“Bear attacks are extremely rare,” said Cory Chick, CPW Southwest Region manager.

“This is a tragic event and a sad reminder that bears are wild and potentially dangerous. Out of an abundance of caution, the bears were removed for public safety. We ask the public to report any encounter with an aggressive bear to CPW.”
