#Crowdfunded Anime Project KURAYUKABA Gets A Green Light for The Entire Film’s Production

At the stage greeting event held at the Cine Libre Ikebukuro theater in Tokyo on August 21, Shigeyoshi Tsukahara announced that his independent animation project KURAYUKABA had gotten a green light for production of the entire film, which was expected to be 40-minute long.

KURAYUKABA is a steampunk detective fantasy based on his own original story. The crowdfunding campaign for the project raised a total of 15,700,364 (142,600 USD) yen through two crowdfunding campaigns in 2018 and 2020. Following the pilot film that has been streamed on YouTube, a prologue to the full-length film, made with the funds from the second crowdfunding round, has been screened at the Cine Libre Ikebukuro theater in Tokyo for two weeks since August 13, along with Tsukahara’s past films.

Tsukahara declined to give a specific schedule for the release of the full-length film, but said, “The schedule has been already set. I think the voice recording will be done within the next year. It will already be released around the time of the Paris Olympics (in the summer of 2024).”

A teaser visual depicting “Chimata of Water,” the entertainment district that Shotaro and his friends will visit in the middle of the story is revealed.
