#Critics of NJ’s COVID-19 rules can ‘go down to Georgia’, says Gov. Phil Murphy

New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy delivered a blunt message Friday to critics whining about his coronavirus restrictions — go to Georgia where cases are spiking and the governor has banned mask requirements.

“If you don’t like our leadership here, why don’t you go down to Georgia, and see how that feels,” Murphy said during his daily coronavirus briefing, NJ.com reported.

“We need responsible leadership. Suing communities that [are] requiring face coverings, it’s unfathomable,” the Democratic governor said, referring to his Peach State counterpart’s move to reverse local mask requirements.

Georgia GOP Gov. Brian Kemp said he was suing Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms — who has tested positive for coronavirus herself — over the city’s mandate that people wear masks.

Kemp argues the measures violate his emergency orders.

“This lawsuit is on behalf of the Atlanta business owners and their hardworking employees who are struggling to survive during these difficult times,” tweeted Kemp, a staunch ally of President Trump.

”These men and women are doing their very best to put food on the table for their families while local elected officials shutter businesses and undermine economic growth.”

Bottoms fired back on Twitter.

“3104 Georgians have died and I and my family are amongst the 106k who have tested positive for COVID-19. Meanwhile, I have been sued by @GovKemp for a mask mandate,” she wrote.

Murphy was ripped last week by some Republicans for mandating that New Jersey residents and visitors wear masks outdoors in public when social distancing wasn’t possible.

Masks have been required indoors in public for months.

New Jersey, once a coronavirus hotspot, has seen more than 15,000 deaths related to COVID-19 — second in the nation behind New York.

But the numbers dropped substantially and have remained stable in recent weeks.
