#COVID-19 vaccine delivery for NJ slashed by 20 percent

New Jersey will get 20 percent fewer doses of the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines through the end of the year, health officials said Friday.

The Garden State had been promised 492,075 doses of the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines this month, but will only get 392,800, Department of Health Commissioner Judy Persichilli said at a news conference in Trenton.

“The information about anticipated doses and shipments of both the Pfizer and Moderna vaccine keeps changing,” said Persichilli.

New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy said the reduction is nothing personal, as every state will be receiving a smaller allocation of vaccines than originally promised.

“I spoke to the very senior levels of Pfizer yesterday and they have no idea why this is being done. I have not spoken to Stéphane Bancel, the CEO of Morderna, so I can’t speak for the Morderna side of the house but Pfizer said to me personally, ‘We want you to know this is not us.’”

Murphy said he expects to learn more during a video conference with the White House on Monday.

“We will not leave any stone unturned to get as much of those doses into New Jersey as fast as possible,” Murphy said.

In a statement, Pfizer said its production and distribution are on schedule — and passed the buck to Washington.

“Pfizer is not having any production issues with our COVID-19 vaccine, and no shipments containing the vaccine are on hold or delayed. This week, we successfully shipped all 2.9 million doses that we were asked to ship by the U.S. Government to the locations specified by them,” the statement reads.

A total of 2,149 New Jersey health care workers have already been vaccinated, according to health officials.
