#Conor McGregor detained over sexual assault allegations while on romantic vacation

He couldn’t kick his way out of that cage.

A romantic vacation in the south of France ended with a jolt last week when Irish mixed martial arts legend Conor McGregor was taken into police custody and questioned in Corsica on allegations of attempted sexual assault and indecent exposure, prosecutors said Saturday.

McGregor, 32, was arrested on Thursday after a complaint was filed earlier that day, according to the French newspaper Le Monde.

He is denying the allegations — the details of which have not been released — and had not been charged as of late Saturday.

The fighter’s French lawyer, Emmanuelle Ramon, called the complaint against McGregor “abusive.”

But authorities in Corsica contend it is the former two-division UFC champion who they believe was abusive.

“Following a complaint filed on September 10 denouncing acts that could be described as attempted sexual assault and sexual exhibition, Mr. Conor Anthony Mac Gregor was the subject of a hearing by the gendarmerie services,” prosecutors said in a press statement.

McGregor, whose nickname is “Notorious,” immediately denied the charges, and a spokesman said he was detained and released.

“Conor McGregor vigorously denies any accusations of misconduct,” the spokesman told The Post.

His manager, Audie Attar added: “I am irate and putting out a warning loud and clear: Conor McGregor is not and will not be a target for those seeking to score a headline or a payday.”

It is unclear precisely how long McGregor was in custody.

But by Friday morning he was back on Twitter, posting photos of the breakfast he was enjoying on his yacht and complaining about a visit he’d received there from the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency.

“USADA have just arrived to my yacht this morning for testing? I’ve retired guys!” he posted.

“But go on then, I’ll allow them test me. It’s all natural here baby!” he tweeted good naturedly.

“Forever and always, God Bless,” he continued, adding, “180km across the Mediterranean Sea tomorrow! LET’S GO!!”

McGregor has been on a month-long holiday in the South of France with his longtime partner Dee Devlin and their two young children.

It was there that he proposed to Devlin, posting to his “TheNotoriousMMA” Instagram account a beach selfie that shows the two 32-year-olds cheek to cheek and smiling, her giant diamond engagement ring glinting in the sun.

“What a birthday, my future wife!” the MMA legend said in the Aug. 8 post, sent a few days before Devlin’s birthday and a month after McGregor’s 32nd birthday on July 14.

Since then, the pair has posted to social media a steady stream of photos showing them walking on sunset-lit beaches, relaxing on their yacht on the Mediterranean with their two young children and attending the beginning of the Tour de France bicycle race in Prince Albert of Monaco’s royal box.

He was in Corsica preparing for an 80-mile water-bike relay race from Calvi to Monaco, the AFP reported.

He was leading a four-member “Team Notorious” against defending champions “Team Serenity,” which is headed by Monaco’s Princess Charlene.

The race was to start on Saturday morning.

The punchy Irishman is well-known for his explosive temper.

He returned to the Octagon early this year after completing court-ordered community service for attacking a bus of rival MMA fighters leaving Brooklyn’s Barclays Center in 2018.

He also faced a civil suit in Miami after his arrest for destroying a fan’s cell phone.

He announced his third retirement from the sport in June, and seemed to devote himself to his Irish girlfriend Devlin, and their children, three year old Conor Jr., and one-year-old daughter Croia.

Devlin and McGregor have been together since 2008, the year McGregor first stepped into the ring professionally.

She quit her job to support his career and works as one of his managers, to “collect the checks,” he said.

But Devlin also accompanies him to his matches and on his rigorous training.

Several Instagram posts recently showed McGregor running shirtless up a steep hill with the Mediterranean in the background.

“Every day since I started in this game, she’s supported me,” McGregor told VIP Magazine in 2013. “She’d drive me to the gym, and she’d listen to all my dreams. I wouldn’t be doing this if it wasn’t for her.”

In January the couple shared a passionate kiss after McGregor knocked out Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone 40 seconds into a first round — his first victory after his 15 month absence from the ring.
