They are “asymptomatic, feeling well, and will continue to isolate in their home,” Polis tweeted Saturday night.
“This evening, Governor Polis and First Gentleman [Marlon] Reis learned that they have tested positive for COVID-19,” an official statement from the governor’s office said.
“Marlon and I are feeling well so far, and are in good spirits. No person or family is immune to this virus,” the statement continued.
“I urge every Coloradan to practice caution, limit public interaction, wear a mask in public, stay six feet from others, and wash your hands regularly,” Polis said.
He’ll continue to run the state while working remotely.
Polis had tweeted on his personal account on Thursday that he was sharing Thanksgiving with his husband and their daughter, Cora after learning Wednesday that he been exposed to someone who had the virus.
The coronavirus is “surging” in Colorado, with the state estimating that one out of every 41 people is currently contagious, the Denver Post reported.
The governors of Nevada, Virginia and Missouri have tested positive for the virus.
