#CNN shouldn’t have let Chris Cuomo ‘yuk it up’ with Andrew Cuomo

Longtime journalist Katie Couric slammed CNN for allowing anchor Chris Cuomo to joke on-air with his brother, former Gov. Andrew Cuomo, during the coronavirus pandemic last year.

“CNN should be able to say ‘we shouldn’t allow Chris Cuomo to yuk it up with his brother, the governor of New York, with a giant Q-tip in the middle of the pandemic because it’s good TV,’” Couric on the “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” Tuesday, where she appeared to promote her new memoir “Going There.”

“They should say, ‘We made a bad decision; that was wrong.’ And I think it’s important for people to acknowledge when they probably have erred the wrong way.”

In the May 2020 segment, Chris Cuomo appeared on his show “Prime Time” with a massive swab to poke pun of the then-governor’s big nose during a conversation about COVID-19 testing, drawing some criticism.

In her new book, Couric dishes about her own screw-ups during her four-decade-long journalism career — including editing out controversial comments made by late Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg in 2016.

On Tuesday, she told Colbert that major news outlets should be more willing to admit mistakes in order to restore the public’s confidence in media.

“The way to restore faith in media is we need to be able to say we made a mistake,” she said.

The Cuomo brothers’ relationship also came under fire after it was revealed Chris Cuomo had been advising the governor on what to do amid allegations of sexual harassment, which ultimately ended in his resignation in August 2021.
