#Clarke Schmidt returns to Yankees after another pitcher injury

Clarke Schmidt is back with the Yankees.

The right-hander had been scheduled to start at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Friday, but as The Post’s Joel Sherman first reported, Schmidt was instead recalled to The Bronx, where he is expected to pitch out of the bullpen.

Schmidt’s return coincides with the Yankees placing Sal Romano on the 10-day IL with a finger sprain. Romano suffered the injury while pitching on Tuesday.

The 25-year-old Schmidt missed much of the season after suffering a strained elbow during spring training. He worked his way back and made a start on Sunday against the Mets, when Schmidt allowed five runs — two earned — in 4 ⅓ innings.

The outing was marred by a costly error by Gleyber Torres in the second that extended the inning, which led to a Francisco Lindor three-run homer, his first of three on the night.
