Clams Casino is a producer who carved out his own lane in rap a decade ago with immense, shoegaze-y productions. It wasn’t long before rappers were lining up to rhyme over them, most prominently A$AP Rocky, whose 2011 tape Live Love A$AP sports five CC beats. Today, the New Jersey producer shares Winter Flower, a new eight-track project.
After laying the foundation for cloud rap’s breakthrough with beats for Rocky, Lil B, Mac Miller, and The Weeknd, Clams switched his style up for his 2016 album 32 Levels. The not-wholly-unsuccessful polish found on those songs has been stripped away for Winter Flower in a welcome back-to-basics return to form. There’s a meditative, monsoon-like quality to each composition that makes it easy to get lost in. Stream the whole thing below.
