Officials in Beijing are hoping that expanded testing will help curb a new outbreak of coronavirus linked to a wholesale food market in the city of 20 million.

People who work near or shop at the large Xinfadi market are being targeted for testing — as well as the tens of thousands of couriers who criss-cross the city delivering packages and food via scooters and pedicabs, Reuters reported.

The giant food delivery firm Meituan said all its couriers would be tested and those who have traveled through high-risk areas will be quarantined for 14 days.

People who work in the catering business as well as restaurant staffers will be tested after the virus was discovered on chopping boards at the Xinfadi market that were used to cut salmon.

Beijing has recorded more than 200 locally transmitted infections since June 11. So far, 2.3 million nucleic acid tests have been carried out in Beijing as of Saturday morning.

China’s coronavirus death toll was 4,634 as of Friday, officials said.
