Change is coming to Chicago P.D. as a result of the real-world protests against police brutality and racism following George Floyd’s death. And now, new photos from the Season 8 premiere offer a look at the person with the new police-reform agenda: new Deputy Superintendent Samantha Miller (Nicole Ari Parker).

She’s looking to “abolish the ‘warrior cop’ mentality,” executive producer Rick Eid told TV Insider, which probably won’t go over well with Sergeant Voight (Jason Beghe). In fact, as you can see in the images below, we may see some clashing between the two in the premiere.

Other than that, it looks like business as usual (but with face coverings at times, due to the pandemic), and that includes Upton (Tracy Spiridakos) back with the team after a trip to New York to work with the FBI team at the end of Season 7. But there are no clues as to what’s to come for her will they/won’t they with partner Halstead (Jesse Lee Soffer). It’s also unclear what’s in store for Atwater’s (LaRoyce Hawkins) trouble with the friends and family of the racist cop he spoke with Internal Affairs about, or exes Burgess (Marina Squerciati) and Ruzek (Patrick John Flueger) as they continue to deal with her miscarriage.
