Charlamagne Tha God has managed to piss off a lot of people throughout his career, but it seems like there’s one person he’s looking to bury the hatchet with. The Breakfast Club radio host had a good friendship with Nicki Minaj before things went sour when he criticized her smash hit “Anaconda,” but time seemingly heals all and Charlamagne wants his friend back.

During a recent interview, Charlamagne Tha God spoke about his broken friendship with Nicki Minaj and why he wants to fix things with her. According to Charlamagne, he can’t ignore the path Nicki carved for her fellow female rappers.

“What celebrity would I like to make amends with,” Charlamagne said. “Probably Nicki Minaj. Me and Nicki used to be super, we used to be really cool. Yeah, I was very vocal about not liking the ‘Anaconda’ record back in the day and, yeah, definitely, probably Nicki. I got a lotta respect for Nicki. What Nicki has done is unprecedented. She revitalized female Hip Hop over the past decade.”

He continued, “All of these new artists, every single one of ’em from [Cardi B] to [Megan Thee Stallion], it’s because of Nicki. Nicki opened that lane again. Yeah, probably Nicki.”

The fallout between Charlamagne and Nicki happened in 2014 when the radio Hall of Famer called her “Anaconda” smash hit “trash.” The Queen rapper didn’t take his comments too lightly and would go on to say Charlamagne was leading a “hate train” against her.

The two would go back-and-forth, with Charlamagne praising his former friend any chance that he got, but Nicki already had her mind made up. The Barbz leader has yet to respond to Charlamagne’s latest comments and fans think it may be a little too late for a sign of peace.

Charlamagne wasn’t wrong in his assessment of Nicki Minaj’s career, either. She’s seen several Recording Industry Association of America certified plaques come her way for her music and she opened the door for many women rappers to enter the game. These days, Nicki continues to be celebrated for her accomplishments while still putting up numbers.

Last month, the RIAA awarded Nicki a diamond plaque for her 2011 smash hit “Super Bass,” certifying at least 10 million sales of the song in the U.S. Nicki Minaj became the second female to acquire a diamond single after Cardi B did it with “Bodak Yellow” in March 2021.
