Charlamagne Tha God has weighed in on the recent news that Showtime’s Desus & Mero wouldn’t be returning for a fifth season due to the show’s hosts opting to pursue separate endeavors.

Charlamagne has long championed the brilliance of the proud Bronx natives, and The Breakfast Club co-host has attributed the widespread reporting of the award-winning duo’s break-up to the toxicity within Hip Hop culture.

“One thing this situation reminds me of is we really are a culture that’s quick to talk about bad news,” he said.

“Like, Desus & Mero been on TV from Vice to Showtime and this show is critically acclaimed, they got a New York Times best-selling book, brand deals and have done some amazing things together and I’ve never seen the culture collectively report on those great things the way they’ve done this break-up.

“That’s just the way it is. People will scream about what they think is your failures and they’ll whisper about your success.”

Charlamagne’s Breakfast Club co-host DJ Envy wished Desus and Mero the best in the future, which was a surprise to some given their famous 2018 squabble.

Desus and Mero first linked up at Complex in late 2013. They launched their widely-successful Bodega Boys podcast in 2015 and then took their talents to VICE for Desus & Mero in 2016.

The Bronx-bred, award-winning duo eventually fled VICE in 2018 for broader pastures at Showtime, where they held steady for four seasons from 2019 through 2022.

“Shouts to showtime & shouts to the hive, thanks for being part of the journey. proud of the show my staff made every episode. Big tings soon come,” Desus wrote on Twitter.
