#CDC probing death of Oregon woman who developed rare blood clot after J&J shot

The Centers for Disease and Control and Prevention is investigating the death of an Oregon woman who developed a rare blood clot and low platelets after receiving the Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine, state officials said.

The Oregon Health Authority on Thursday announced the existence of the federal probe, which kicked off on Sunday.

The woman, who was in her 50s, developed the conditions within two weeks of receiving the single-dose jab in early April.

The J&J jab has since been federally paused due to concerns about blood clots after six reports of the unusual condition out of more than 8 million Americans given the one-dose vaccination so far.

The woman from Oregon had a “rare but serious blood clot in combination with very low platelets,” OHA said in a statement.

Her symptoms are consistent with other cases that are being looked at, according to Dr. Shimi Sharief, the senior health advisor for the state’s health authority.
