#Broncos’ Vic Fangio didn’t want team shaking Jets’ hands

Things got tense at the end of the Jets’ 37-28 loss to the Broncos on Thursday night.

Broncos coach Vic Fangio ordered his team off the field without shaking hands. Fangio could be heard on TV saying the team was going straight to the locker room with an expletive dropped in.

“There were a couple of personal fouls at the end and our sideline was pissed off and I wanted to avoid any confrontation and have it get ugly,” Fangio said. “I thought it was the prudent thing to do.”

The Jets committed six personal fouls in the game, including several roughing-the-passer penalties. Jets coach Adam Gase, wwho worked with Fangio in 2015 on the Bears staff, said he will talk to the Broncos coach soon about what happened.

“I think he was just trying to make sure we didn’t have any kind of melee,” Gase said. “It was getting heated.”

Gase said QB Sam Darnold suffered a sprained shoulder when he was hit by Broncos LB Alexander Johnson in the first half. Darnold exited the game briefly, but was able to play the rest of the game. Gase was unsure of Darnold’s prognosis.

“He came back in. He said, ‘I’m good to go.’ I’m sure I’ll find out more tonight or tomorrow morning,” Gase said.

Darnold said it was initially painful but he was not overly concerned.

“I’ve had something similar so I wasn’t too worried,” Darnold said.

Receiver Jamison Crowder was back in the lineup and made some key catches for the jets after missing two games with a hamstring injury and had seven catches for 104 yards. But promising rookie WR Lawrence Cager injured his hamstring in the second quarter in a gruesome-looking injury.

The Jets also got production out of WR Jeff Smith, who was activated off injured reserve just before the game. Smith, who suffered a shoulder injury in training camp, caught seven passes for 81 yards.

The Jets had several players leave the game injured: CB Bless Austin (calf), OT Chuma Edoga (shoulder), OLB Jordan Jenkins (calf) and OT Mekhi Becton (shoulder).

The Jets made several roster moves prior to the game. They signed CB Javelin Guidry from the practice squad. They elevated CB Lamar Jackson from the practice squad. They released QB Mike White and CB Nate Hairston. White served as Darnold’s backup in the team’s first three games of the season. Joe Flacco is healthy enough to be the backup now, making White expendable.
