Casey Frey made a surreal, dance heavy video for Childish Gambino

Atavista, the 2024 album Childish Gambino, is a project with a jumbled timeline. It was first released in 2020 with the title 3.15.20 before Donald Glover reissued the project under a new name four years later. With that in mind it makes a little more sense as to why a video for the song “Psilocybae (Millenial Love)” popped up online overnight, a full 10 months after the album dropped.
Watching the video is an equally confounding experience, but also a hugely enjoyable one. It’s the brainchild of Casey Frey, a comedian who has parlayed his online success into a bunch of acting roles (last year he appeared in an episode of Abbott Elementary as an anti-drug officer named Slimothy) and is a solid IG follow.
In the clip we see Frey use his trademark elastic dance moves first in a green field and then as he attempts to seduce a woman with the help of a bell hooks book. Later on, things take a trippy turn as Frey encounters a giant green creature and begins to embody the sun and the moon. Things switch again for the 21 Savage verse, with Glover making a cameo in his own video in a black and white section where he lip syncs to the Atlanta rapper’s vocals.
Check out the video below. Childish Gambino recently appeared alongside Kali Uchis on Jennie’s Ruby track “Damn Right.”
