#Kings’ Chimezie Metu throws sucker punch during Summer League game

Well, that escalated quickly.

With the Kings’ Summer League game against the Mavericks winding down, Sacramento up double-digits, forward Chimezie Metu drove to the lane and spun for what would have been a huge dunk over Dallas rookie Eugene Omoruyi. Omoruyi hacked Metu with a hard foul to keep the ball out of the hoop – and Metu wasn’t having any of it.

After the play was blown dead as a foul, Metu approached Omoruyi and sucker punched him right in the face.

Omoruyi walked furiously over to Metu and appeared ready to retaliate, but both players’ teammates held them back and prevented any further fisticuffs.

Both players were ejected – Metu for the punch and Omoruyi for the foul, assessed as a Flagrant 2.

Metu is a four-year veteran, having appeared in 83 games over three seasons with the Spurs and Kings. Omoruyi is currently on a two-way contract with the Mavericks, having gone undrafted in 2021. It’s somewhat fair to say neither have the job security to be fighting in a meaningless Summer League game.

The Kings won the game, 86-70.
