The Buccaneers have already been hit with the injury bug headed into their Week 2 matchup.

Wide receiver Chris Godwin is in the concussion protocol and missed practice again on Thursday, which will impact offensive coordinator Byron Leftwich’s play-calling come Sunday against the Panthers.

“It does some, just because of who he is,” Leftwich said. “Just like it was last week with Mike [Evans’ availability being in question until game time], same thing. With who they are, it changes a lot. It’s something that we’re looking at. We don’t know anything right now, but we’ll be prepared for anything.”

Fellow wideout Evans has been limited with a hamstring issue. He played 65 of 70 snaps, but reeled in just one catch on four targets for two yards in the Buccaneers’ Week 1 loss to the Saints.

“I feel good. I felt good enough to play last week, so that’s no excuse,” Evans said Thursday. “Obviously, I could’ve played better. This week I feel a lot better. Nobody ever plays at 100 percent anyway, especially if you’re a good receiver. Nobody plays all the way at 100 percent. I’m close enough.”

Godwin, 23, finished with the third-most receiving yards (1,333) behind Julio Jones and Michael Thomas last year. Evans, 26, also broke the 1,000 yard mark and finished 13th in receiving yards (1,157).

With the Buccaneers’ 1-2 punch injured, quarterback Tom Brady may have to turn to other parts of their offense. After Godwin and Evans on the depth chart is 22-year-old Scotty Miller, who saw six targets and caught five passes for 73 yards last week.

Tight ends O.J. Howard and Rob Gronkowski and running backs Leonard Fournette and Ronald Jones could also see more involvement this week. Howard was on the field less than Gronkowski last week but reeled in four of six targets for 36 yards and a touchdown, while Gronkowski caught two of three passes for 11 yards.

Brady, 43, will have to step up his game after a shoddy, two-interception debut for Tampa. The Buccaneers’ offense should put up points with or without Godwin this week against a highly exploitable Carolina secondary and a defensive line that failed to record a single hit on Derek Carr in Week 1.
