#Buccaneers’ cannons to fall silent during Super Bowl

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are the first team in NFL history to play a Super Bowl in their home stadium, but there is one perk they won’t get to enjoy.

No firing cannons allowed.

The Buccaneers have a giant Pirate ship in one end zone that has cannons that fire whenever they score a touchdown. But they won’t be firing before or during the game because the NFL wants to maintain the integrity of Super Bowl 2021 being played at a neutral site.

“The firing of the cannons after big plays is a tradition that defines what it means to be a Buccaneer fan and serves as a signature element of our home game experience at Raymond James Stadium,” the club said in a statement on Twitter. “However, we also acknowledge and understand the NFL’s position with regards to maintaining the integrity of a neutral site atmosphere for Super Bowl LV. While the cannons may not fire in their typical fashion, we look forward to showcasing parts of our tradition while working within the league’s guidelines.”

But Buccaneers fans will be glad to know that they can fire the cannons if they win the Super Bowl.

NFL senior VP Michael Signora told the the Tampa Bay Times they can shoot the cannons “long and loud” if they are victorious.

There will be 25,000 fans in attendance at Raymond James Stadium and 30,000 cut-out spectators, according to NFL.com.
