“Bruce Campbell Reveals How He Brings Ash Williams and The Evil Dead Legacy to Evil Dead Rise”

Bruce Campbell may not appear as Ash Williams in Evil Dead Rise, but the actor revealed that he has been incorporated into the movie in another way.

Evil Dead Rise is set to bring the iconic horror franchise to a whole new playground later this year, and while appearing at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, Bruce Campbell spoke to Variety about the movie. While Ash Williams will not be making an on-screen appearance in the movie, Campbell revealed that his voice is in the film along with a host of sounds from the original Evil Dead movie. According to the actor, Evil Dead Rise is a “house of fire.”

Evil Dead Rise will shift the franchise from the classic cabin in the woods setting and relocate the Necronomicon Ex-Mortis to an urban high-rise apartment block, where a new set of characters will find themselves fighting Deadites in a bloody battle of survival. Although Bruce Campbell will not be reprising his role as Ash this time around, the actor is a producer on the movie and as he revealed at SDCC, he has been hands-on in making sure the Evil Dead legacy remains intact.

“It’s a house of fire is what it is. It’s going to scare the living crap out of you. It’s urban, no cabin in the woods. An urban high-rise apartment is the cabin. It’s a single mom and her family and it’s going to be some bad juju happening there. It’s going to be horrible, but in the best way. The trick it to try and keep something of the Evil Dead legacy within the filmmaking, so I was there for the post production sound that we did in Europe. So we snuck in a few of the original Evil Dead sound effects from the original movie, because we have them all digital now. So my job is to sneak stuff in and infect his movie with some of the Evil Dead stuff. My voice is in it too.”

Sam Raimi Says Evil Dead Rise Will ‘Knock Socks Off’

The Evil Dead franchise has stood the test of time to become one of the most loved horror franchises of the last four decades. After two direct sequels, a reboot and a three-season sequel TV series, things are about to get a shake-up in Evil Dead Rise, but Sam Raimi, who directed the original movies and hand-selected Lee Cronin to direct this one, says that fans are going to love it. While recently promoting his Marvel movie Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Raimi said:

“I’ve seen a rough cut, a medium-fine cut, and a fine cut. There’s probably a few changes that [director] Lee Cronin is making that I haven’t seen, but it’s great… It’s terrifying, and it’s going to knock people’s socks off.”

The official plot synopsis for the film is that a road-weary Beth (Lily Sullivan) will pay an overdue visit to her older sister Ellie (Alyssa Sutherland, who’s raising three kids on her own in a cramped L.A. apartment. Unfortunately for them, the sisters’ reunion is cut short when a discovery deep in the bowels of the building sees Beth thrown into a nightmarish battle for survival. There is still no release date for Evil Dead Rise, but it is still expected to arrive on HBO Max later this year.
