President Trump criticized Democrats’ energy policies Tuesday and blamed them for power shortages and historic rolling blackouts in the state of California sparked by an intense heatwave.

The president said every American would face the same problem if Joe Biden were elected and able to implement the Green New Deal, pushed by the left flank of his party but defeated in the Senate last year.

“In California, Democrats have intentionally implemented rolling blackouts — forcing Americans in the dark. Democrats are unable to keep up with energy demand,” the president tweeted Tuesday afternoon.

“Meanwhile, I gave America energy independence in fact, so much energy we could never use it all. The Bernie/Biden/AOC Green New Deal plan would take California’s failed policies to every American!” he added.

Trump’s swipe at Biden and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) comes after the Democratic nominee named the Bronx lawmaker as the co-chair of his campaign’s climate change panel.

The 77-year-old unveiled his energy plan last month with a heavy focus on the Green New Deal being pushed by AOC, promising a “clean energy revolution” and a “carbon pollution-free electric sector by the year 2025.”

The Golden State this week is enduring its first rolling blackouts in 19 years, leaving millions of Californians without power.

California’s nonprofit energy company, the California Independent System Operator, blamed “high heat and increased electricity demand,” according to a Politico report.

But experts told the publication they believed inadequate transmission and an over-reliance on renewable energy and issues with natural gas plants during high heat were the cause.

California’s Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom has called for an investigation into the cause of the blackouts, which he said shouldn’t have taken place in the “innovative” state.

“These blackouts, which occurred without prior warning or enough time for preparation, are unacceptable and unbefitting of the nation’s largest and most innovative state. This cannot stand,” Newsom wrote in an emergency proclamation seeking to free up excess energy.
