Lorde shares new Virgin song “Man Of The Year”

Lorde has dropped the second song from her new album Virgin. “Man of the Year” arrives alongside new music video, directed by Grant Singer. You can see that below.

In the lyrics to the song, which is produced by Lorde alongside Jim E-Stack, she sings of going through an “ego death” and emerging on the other side a changed person. “You met me at a really strange time in my life,” she states in one verse. “Take my knife and I cut the cord/My babe can’t believe I’ve become someone else/Someone more like myself.”

Last week Lorde described the song as “an offering from really deep inside me. The song I’m proudest of on Virgin,” in an online teaser.

Since announcing Virgin, Lorde has spoken on numerous occasions about her identity. She has decribed her femininity as “raw, primal, innocent, elegant, openhearted, spiritual, masc,” and said her Met Gala look made her “feel like a man and a woman.” Speaking to Rolling Stone in a recent interview she said she is “in the middle gender-wise,” adding, “I’m a woman except for the days when I’m a man.”

Lorde will follow the June 27 release of Virgin with the Ultrasound tour. Kicking off in September 2025 in Austin, Texas, the run of dates will see her playing arenas across the U.S., before hopping over to Europe and the U.K.
