Last week, Britney Spears shocked the world when she spoke in court during a conservatorship hearing. The conservatorship, which has controlled Spears’s day-to-day life, career, and personal finances since 2008, was called “abusive” by the singer, who singled out her management and father Jamie Spears for blame as she described the oppressive arrangement, which allegedly includes an IUD implanted against her will.

Jamie Spears responded to his daughter’s charges in two court filings obtained on Wednesday by The New York Times. Jamie Spears, who has managed the conservatorship in whole or part since 2008, asked the court to look into his daughter’s claims. “[I]t is critical that the Court confirm whether or not Ms. Spears’s testimony was accurate in order to determine what corrective actions, if any, need to be taken.”

One of the filings also asks the court to provide an avenue for Jamie Spears to respond to his daughter’s allegations. “It is also imperative for the proper functioning of conservatorship proceedings before this Court that all parties be provided a full and fair opportunity to respond to allegations and claims asserted against them.”

In the second filing, Jamie Spears claims that Jodi Montgomery, Spears’s personal conservator, has been “fully in charge of Ms. Spears’s day-to-day personal care and medical treatment” since 2019, when Jamie Spears stepped down for medical reasons. A lawyer for Montgomery told the Times that their client has “one primary goal — to assist and encourage Britney in her path to no longer needing a conservatorship of the person.”
