#Brie Larson Says She’s ‘Just Getting Started’ as Captain Marvel

As one of the most powerful characters in the MCU, Captain Marvel has only begun her journey, according to Brie Larson.

Here's What Brie Larson Looks Like as Captain Marvel

While some Marvel stars are uncertain of their MCU future, Brie Larson seems to be pretty sure of hers. Having made her debut as Carol Danvers in Captain Marvel in 2019, Larson has since appeared in Avengers: Endgame, the post-credit scene of Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, and will be joined by Kamala Khan, aka Ms. Marvel and Monica Rambeau in The Marvels next year. According to the actress, though, that is “just the beginning” of what is planned for Captain Marvel in the future.

Captain Marvel was absent for most of the Infinity Saga, only being called on by Nick Fury as he was dusted by the snap at the end of Avengers: Infinity War. Following her introductory movie, Carol Danvers proved her worth in the fight against Thanos before heading off again into the unknown. She then made a surprise appearance with Bruce Banner in the post-credit scene of Shang-Chi, where she discussed the Ten Rings and how they appeared to be signaling something out in space. It is likely no coincidence that both Larson and Mark Ruffalo’s Banner will soon be seen again in other projects, and it is almost like the Shang-Chi scene was there to just remind us of that.

In a new interview with Insider, Larson discussed her role and how she believes the character has a tremendous positive impact on people. As well as the real-world reaction to Captain Marvel, Larson’s hero will also be seen to have a huge influence on Kamala Khan in Ms. Marvel, as the idol of Iman Vellani’s new MCU star. Explaining how much she loves playing the role, Larson said:

“The novelty is not even close to wearing off. It’s the thrill of a lifetime. It’s the greatest honor and beyond my wildest expectations that I could help provide this symbol for people. Three years have just been the beginning for me of getting to see what the importance of having characters like this can do for people. It can bring strength, it can bring confidence, it can bring community, and so we’re just getting started and I’m really excited for people to see what’s next.”

For a while, The Marvels was simply known as Captain Marvel 2, suggesting that it would be a standard sequel entirely focused on the title character. However, following the arrival of WandaVision and the introduction of Monica Rambeau, who gained some of her own fantastic powers after breaking through Wanda’s magic field, the movie changed name and a little of its direction. While this was obviously always the plan, Marvel Studios wouldn’t want to give away any of its secrets too early. As it stands, we will know very little about the upcoming movie.

The Marvels was originally slated to arrive in November this year, but following Disney’s slate changes that slot is now taken up by Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, with The Marvels following on Feb. 17, 2023. Before that, though, there is also a chance that Larson could make an appearance in Ms. Marvel, which is rumored to be arriving on Disney+ in May.
