“#Boulder victim, Jody Waters, remembered as friendly boutique owner”
A 65-year-old boutique store owner who was murdered in the Boulder supermarket shooting was remembered for her sense of style and friendly demeanor.
“It sounds like a cliché, but she would light up a room,” Jeff Shapiro told The Denver Post about Jody Waters, one of the 10 people gunned down at a King Soopers supermarket on Monday.
Shapiro, who owned a store at the Pearl Street Mall for several years, said he and his wife Melissa got to know Waters.
“She came in and shopped with us. We shopped with her,” he told the newspaper.
Shapiro – who was originally from Illinois, as was Waters — said the slain woman was the mother of two daughters.
He said Waters, who worked at the Island Farm boutique, was a favorite among shoppers, with many of them considering her a friend.
State Rep. Judy Amabile, whose district includes the supermarket, knew Waters and honored her on the floor of the Colorado House of Representatives on Tuesday.
“I know her from a store on the Pearl Street Mall where I shop,” Amabile told The Denver Post, adding that the former Barrington, Illinois, woman “was just super energetic and nice and fun.”
Ahmad Al Aliwi Alissa, 21, has been charged in connection to the rampage.
