#Border agents find $4.3M of meth disguised as pickles

Brine doesn’t pay.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers uncovered $4.3 million worth of methamphetamine earlier this month in a tractor-trailer hauling fresh cucumber pickles, officials said.

The drugs, which CBP South Texas described on Twitter as “funky pickles,” were found on April 17 hiding among the pickles in 114 plastic-wrapped packages, officials said.

The long distance hauler contained 217 total pounds of contraband.

Border agents at the Pharr International Bridge in Pharr, Texas, seized the drugs and truck. The case remains under investigation, CBP said in a statement.

“This substantial quantity of hard narcotics will not make its final destination in the United States,” said Port of Hidalgo/Pharr/Anzalduas Director Carlos Rodriguez.

“This interdiction reinforces our officers’ role in advancing CBP’s border security mission by preventing dangerous drugs from entering and negatively impacting our communities.”

Infamous drug lord  Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman’s Sinaloa cartel used to smuggle drugs into the US inside cans of pickled jalapenos, a witness testified at his 2018 Brooklyn trial.
