#Body Meat Announces New EP, Shares Video for New Song “ULTIMA”: Watch

Body Meat—the project of Philadelphia-based multi-instrumentalist and producer Christopher Taylor—has released a new song. Check out the video for “ULTIMA” below. The track is taken from a new EP called Year of the Orc, which Taylor will release on March 16.

Taylor wrote and recorded Year of the Orc in his Philadelphia apartment. “The EP title is about having acceptance in myself” Taylor said in a press release. “I’m an orc, I’ve never been very popular, I don’t have a specific aesthetic or genre or anything. I’m cool with laying low and creating and I surround myself with people who believe the same thing. It’s me and my orcs taking over 2021!” He also cites Boyz II Men, Jlin, and hyperpop as influences on the record.

The visual for “ULTIMA” was directed by Daniel Brennan, produced by Powered By Wind, and choreographed by Helen Noland. The clip features an off-grid trailer that served as Taylor’s home for two years of his childhood. “The film is about a two year period of time where my mom had to move us all into these trailers in the woods outside a tiny town called Elkton in Maryland (population 15443),” Taylor said. “Essentially, it’s about going back to reclaim the energy that we cultivated to survive that period of time. I think I need that energy to get through this next chapter of my life.”

Body Meat’s most recent album, Truck Music, was released in 2019. Read the Rising feature, “Get to Know Body Meat, A Philly Weirdo Who’s Rewriting the Rules of Rhythm.”
