Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba THE MOVIE Mugen Train has surpassed the lifetime gross of Makoto Shinkai's social phenomenon of an anime film Your Name and Disney's Frozen to become the third highest-grossing film in the Japanese box office. Over the last 39 days, the film has grossed more than 25.91 billion yen (US$247.8 million) on the back of more than 19 million tickets sold.

On the anime film chart, worldwide Demon Slayer hasn't moved from third place (as of writing) behind Spirited Away and Your Name, but on the Japan chart, Mugen Train grossing 25,917,043,800 yen ($US247,861,536) has moved it second, only behind the lifetime gross of Spirited Away at 30.8 billion yen (US$294.5 million). Factoring in live-action films as well on the Japanese chart, Demon Slayer is currently behind the aforementioned Spirited Away, as well as James Cameron's Titanic at 26.2 billion yen (US$250.5 million).
For admissions, Demon Slayer: Mugen Train at 19.397,589 tickets sold has also surpassed Your Name to become the fourth most attended film in Japan of all time and is now currently slightly behind Tokyo Olympiad at 19.50 million, Frozen at 20.03 million, and Spirited Away at 23.50 million tickets sold.
It was also announced that this week's giveaway (which starts on November 28) will be another Ufotable Illustrated A5 Card 2, and will have a print run of 1 million units, which will likely disappear by the end of next weekend.

It is very likely now that Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba THE MOVIE Mugen Train will surpass Spirited Away to become the highest-grossing film in Japan ever by the end of the year (barring any new restrictions from the Japanese government), and with the film yet to open in the rest of the world, very likely to be one of the biggest anime films ever.
Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba THE MOVIE Mugen Train opened in Japanese cinemas on October 16 and had the best opening weekend in Japanese cinema history. You can read our review of the film here. The Ufotable-produced anime film continues to adapt the manga series by Koyoharu Gotouge, which saw a TV anime series adaptation in 2019. The film is scheduled to be released in the west in early 2021. The Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba TV anime series streamed on Crunchyroll as it aired.
