Kazue Kato clarified in a Tweet thread that the break isn’t due to her health, but because she’ll be working on a limited series adapting Fuyumi Ono‘s Eizen Karukaya Kaiitan novel into manga form, a “dream come true” says Kato. The manga creator explained:
“It would have been nice if I could have serialized both of them at the same time without taking a break, but I was worried that my body might have fallen apart, so I’m going to take a break [from Blue Exorcist] for a little over half a year and concentrate on Karukaya for a while!”
Eizen Karukaya Kaiitan is scheduled to start in the October issue of Jump SQ. (which releases in September) and is set to run for half a year or so. Eizen Karukaya Kaiitan tells multiple short stories from the perspective of Ohata, an owner of a shop that is haunted by its past of being the residence of a samurai. Kato said that she is “excited” to be adapting a novel into a manga series for the first time, and hopes to do her best in “conveying the fun and charm of the original work as much as possible.”
Kato took Blue Exorcist on break earlier this year for two months to nurse her fatigue and have a much-needed break after 12 years working on the series.
The first volume of Blue Exorcist in Japanese:
Blue Exorcist has been adapted into two TV anime series and an anime film. Crunchyroll is streaming the two anime series, describing them as such:
Assiah, the realm of humans, and Gehenna, the realm of demons. Normally, these two dimensions would never intersect, but the demons are now intruding on the material world.
