There’s a fire in Adam Gase’s kitchen right now and — after Sunday’s 36-7 blowout loss to the Colts in Indianapolis — some of his players did their best to try to extinguish the flames.

With every loss, the status of their embattled head coach becomes more tenuous. On Sunday, Jets players insisted the problem is them, not Gase.

“I believe in Adam,’’ Jets guard Greg Van Roten said. “I’m happy to be there. I heard nothing but good things [about Gase] before I got here. I’ve been around him for a long time, these last couple months, and I’m excited to play for him.

“I don’t know anything about his job, I just know that the game plans are not the issue. It’s the execution of the team. That’s the issue. It’s not like guys don’t know what to do. We know what to do; we’re just not doing it. That’s why it’s so frustrating.

“It’s not like, ‘Hey, we weren’t ready for this, we didn’t’ know they were going to do that,’ or ‘I don’t believe in this coach.’ ’’

Gase’s Jets are 0-3 and have been outscored 94-37. This comes after his first season with the team, in 2019, when the Jets started 1-7 and finished 7-9.

Before the Jets game Sunday, ESPN’s Chris Mortensen reported that “executives of the Jets at the highest levels’’ were going to monitor Sunday’s game against the Colts and Thursday night’s home game against the winless Broncos and he implied that they would evaluate whether to retain Gase or fire him.

After the game, quarterback Sam Darnold didn’t want to hear about this mess being Gase’s fault.

“He’s been putting in … I truly believe this and the guys in the locker room feel the same way … we’ve been put in great positions to go out there and succeed, to go out there and make plays and execute a game plan that’s put together perfectly for us,’’ Darnold said. “It’s just about us going out there and executing. That’s it. I’ve just got to execute the play that’s called.’’

Darnold threw three interceptions on Sunday, two of which were returned for TDs and one of which was picked off in the end zone.

“To the fans that are calling for [Gase’s] his head, I never really understood that,’’ Van Roten said. “I was on a team last year [the Panthers], we fired our coach [Ron Rivera] and it’s not like we started winning games (Carolina lost its final four games after Rivera was fired). You go further in the tank. So, I’m not really sure what that solves.

“But I get the frustration. I understand that. No one outside of our facility believes in us right now, and that’s just kind of how things are going. So we need to rally together as a team.’’
