The new single from the Ghanaian artist celebrates his 22nd birthday.
This time last year, Black Sherif was the subject of our first GEN F profile of 2023, the year after he released The Villian I Never Was, No. 49 on our 50 best albums of 2022 list. As the Ghanaian artist prepares his follow-up album, he’s released a string of songs including “Oil In My Head,” “Oh Paradise,” “Yaya,” and “Simmer Down.“ His new song “January 9th” is titled after the day of his birth (he’s 22 today!). Unsurprisingly, the soulful tune finds him reflective, aware of his burdens, the threats to his survival, and the responsibility he has to handle it all. Hear it in the music video above, which depicts a symbolic and fashionable bench-pressing session.
