#BLACK ROCK SHOOTER DAWN FALL Gets Action-Packed Trailer, April 3 Premiere

BLACK ROCK SHOOTER DAWN FALL has received a main trailer, which previews various action sequences from the upcoming anime as well as the ending song “Before the Nightmare” by Kanako Takatsuki. The anime also received an April 3 premiere date in Japan.

New cast details and story details were also released. The newly announced cast members include Takuya Kirimoto as Colonel and Ayaka Asai as Monika. 

As for the story, it takes place in the year 2062. 20 years have passed since a large-scale labor-automation project resulted in Artemis, the AI at the core of the project, battling mankind and devastating the Earth. An amnesiac girl called Empress, who is one of three surviving guardians of humanity, awakens in an underground facility and learns from the colonel of an under-construction moon-to-Earth orbital elevator, through which Artemis plans to send its machine forces. However, standing in the way of Empress and the colonel are Empress’s former allies Dead Master and Strength, as well as Artemis’s unmanned forces and the Smiley cult.

BLACK ROCK SHOOTER DAWN FALL will be streaming via Disney+ in addition to airing on Japanese TV. The staff includes Tenshou (Azur Lane The Animation, Grisaia: Phantom Trigger The Animation) as director, Makoto Fukami (Blade of the Immortal) as series composer and scriptwriter, Ryou Yoshigami (Psycho-Pass 3 scriptwriter) as assistant series composer and co-scriptwriter, and Masayuki Nonaka (AZUR LANE) and You Nakagawa (AZUR LANE animation director) as character designers and chief animation directors.

Other staff include illustrator huke as the original character designer and illustrator Rui Tomono with Nitroplus’s Makoto Ishiwata and Youjo Oota as concept designers. Bibury Animation Studios and Bibury Animation CG are the animation production studios.

Meanwhile, the previously revealed staff includes Yui Ishikawa as Empress/ Black Rock Shooter, Saori Hayami as Dead Master, Megumi Han as Strength, and Misaki Kuno as Black Trike.

BLACK ROCK SHOOTER originated as an original character by huke in 2007. The character inspired huke’s fellow supercell member ryo to create a song based on the illustration, with vocaloid Hatsune Miku providing the vocals. huke produced a PV for the song. 

Prior to BLACK ROCK SHOOTER DAWN FALL, huke’s creation inspired two anime in the form of an OVA in 2010 and a TV series in 2012. There have also been video games and manga featuring the character.
